April 2025 Membership Meeting

The April Membership Meeting will take place on April 8 at Hangar 15, Harvey Airfield in Snohomish. Our social time with snacks starts at 6:00 PM, and the meeting starts at 6:30 PM, with our speaker beginning around 7:00 PM. Thank you to Mike & Michelle O’Grady for bringing the snacks!

Our speaker this month is David Voetmann, Director of The Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Edmonds College where ordinary people with extraordinary ideas gain access to an 11,000sf sandbox with the tools, training, and community to turn thoughts into things.

Growing up deep in the bush country of Africa ignited a creative instinct in David. He followed that creative drive, earning a BFA in Industrial Design at the University of Washington and, for the last decade, has explored the transformation of our economy as new technologies democratize product development and small scale manufacturing. Before his current role as Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, David spent 11 years in Branding and Marketing for Kodiak Aircraft.

February 2025 Membership Meeting Recap

Our February Membership Meeting was held on Tuesday, February 11 starting at 6:30 PM at Hangar 15 at Harvey Airfield. Many thanks to Tom Williams for bringing our refreshments!

Our guest speaker, Alan Jesmer of Precision Airmotive, gave a very informative presentation on carburetors, throttle bodies, and fuel injectors: how they work, and how to maintain them.

April 9 Meeting Recap

Our April speaker was Lawrence Doan, owner and designer of Whistle Pig Toys. Lawrence is a UW grad in Aeronautical Engineering with years of experience in aviation and competitive glider competition. Lawrence, along with his daughter, decided to start a boutique toy company selling balsa gliders that he has designed. Wrapped up in all of this fun is a great learning experience for both youth and adults including construction techniques, weight and balance and trimming for flight characteristics. Lawrence gave a very interesting talk about the details of the engineering process involved in the design of his gliders. Currently Whistle Pig Toys has almost a dozen different designs available for purchase and more coming. Go to whistlepigtoys.com to check them out.
